The best way to pay for the lap band surgery if med ins does not cover it? live in CT, got blue cross PPO?
Hello everyone. I am looking to get my lap band surgery, however my medical insurance does not cover the procedure. I understand that one of the options is to get the loan for this purpose, but I am still in search for something less damaging (financially). I am currently living in Connecticut, my medical coverage Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (blue choice PPO) and I am qualified for the surgery.

- At times like this, always helps to have a sympathetic, rich relative. Or, how bout doing it with a lay-away plan?
- diet n exercise! then u wont need the surgery at all.
- Have you considered going outside of the United States for the surgery? You can get quality of care that equals or exceeds what you will get in the United States for up to half of the cost. I had gastric bypass about three years ago in Mexico, and I have never regretted it. In fact, I found the standard of care I received exceeded what I have experienced in the U.S. (you can see my story in the link in the "sources" section below my answer) Most important is to research the doctor/clinic you are considering. This is important whether your insurance covers the surgery or not, but when you are self-pay you have lots more options. Get referrals from patients, and ask for names of patients who have had surgery fairly recently as well as those who are long-term post-op. Good luck on this journey, and if you have any questions about it, feel free to contact me via the website. I'm not getting paid for it - I just remember how scary the process was and want to help others who are on this path.
