Blue Cross Insurance $250 annaul deduct and $20 copay, how much would a Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging cost???
I am planning to do an Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging for my painful neck. I have a $250 annaul deductible medical plan with $20 copay (blue cross of california). On the plan it says "20% negociated fee after annual deductible". I am confused as to what that means!!! Does that if they charge me $500, I pay $250 and after that I pay 20% of the rest??? Sorry I'm just so new to the whole medical world, help me out here, smart people! Thanks!!

- You have it right. You do need to meet your deductible just once for medical services this year, so if you haven't been anywhere else since the beginning of the year, they'll take the $250 off the top, that will be your responsibility. Then yes, you are responsible for your $20 copay. Now for the balance of the service charge, you will be responsible for the 20%, however, some providers will write off all or a portion of what the insurance doesn't pay if they are a "preferred provider". It's a good thing to check with the medical office. Someone in their billing department could tell you what to expect to pay for an MRI.
- I think you understand it better than you think and you are correct. You will have to meet your deductible and then they will pay all but 20% (which will be your responsibility). Providing this is an 80/20 plan. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING AT THE TIME OF THE PROCEDURE. They will bill you. However, I will caution you now to check to make sure there is not a higher deductible for the Outpatient testing and on some procedures they require a pre-approval. Call your ins company and ask them if they have any special requirements for this procedure and what the deductible is....After the procedure is done you will receive an EOB (explanation of benefits) set this aside until your bill from the procedure has come in. Compare the 2. What your insurance company says is YOUR responsibility is ALL YOU HAVE TO PAY. Don't let them fool you into paying more than you need to. Blue Cross Blue Shield is by far the best insurance you can have. I hope this helps.
