Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Insurance?

I want to get the Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Insurance (the temporary plan) and I want to know how much it covers for hospital stays, will it cover me if I am in another state of where I purchased the insurance (purchase in IL but is it covered in CA?) Also, since this is my first medical insurance plan where I have to pay..would I have to pay them the monthly premium when I sign up? I am 18, female, getting an individual plan and a non-smoker. I also currently live in zip code 60616. Thanks =) Here's the site: https://services.hscil.com/il/eapp/wxpm1653.pl?source=WEBIL00100 I want the best option for me in the temporary plan (I am confused with the different monthly premiums, deductibles, etc.) and hopefully will only have to stay one day in the hospital....

  1. the best thing you can do is get ahold of the customer service people through the company, they can answer any questions. It is usually an 800 number so it's free, but I understand how you feel, I just got disability, and with it came medicare, which I totally dont understand, but I got to say, as long as you get a person who is not stupid and knows the system, they can answer all your questions
  2. I think I might be able to help you here... I work in Human Resources and deal with the insurance mumbo jumbo all the time. From what I understand, if you get the plan with the $500 deductable, you will be paying $88.98 a month as a premium. Every time you go to the doctor you will be paying full price until you reach $500 (that is your deductable). You also would have a 20% co-insurance. What this means is you will be paying 20% of your medical bill (after the deductable is met) and the insurance company will by paying 80%. If you take the premium plan, you will not pay any more than $1000 in co-insurance. I know it is confusing, but to sum it up, you should not have to pay more than $1500 total (not including your premium...) So, if you were to have surgery and it cost $10000 you would pay the following: $88.98 a month for 6 months ($533.88) $500 deductable $2000 co-insurance (but since you have a "cap" you would only pay $1000 co-insurance here). or $70.43 a month for 6 months ($422.58) $1000 deductable $2000 co-insurance (but since you have a "cap" you would only pay $1000) and so on... but please call the company to get specific information. I'm just trying to explain how it works. I hope that helped and I didn't confuse you more! Good luck and I hope everything works out.
