Is there an affordable health insurance plan in California?

I am struggling to find an affordable health insurance plan for my family. I've asked this question before and got a great answer, then lost the link! Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

  1. It depends on what YOU consider affordable for the types of coverages you want. Try shopping at www.ehealthinsurance.com.
  2. How do you define affordable? If you're looking for a plan that covers everyone, with maternity, and no deductibles, for $300 a month, your pricing is NOT realistic. But it appears that "do it yourself" health insurance isn't going to work for you very well. You're better off talking to a local agent, and you can call them as many times as you need to, with coverage questions.
  3. Try a good health insurance broker. Don't go to a big web site with no personal service.
  4. There are many affordable health insurance plans in California. However, I do not know if you are one of the persons in California who can get one of those plans; not everyone can. If you are a person who can get an affordable health insurance plan, then you can find out which affordable insurance plan you can get from a website or from a local broker or agent. I am not allowed to identify the website on Yahoo Answers because an answer that mentions that website will be falsely reported as spam. You can e-mail me if you want to know which website it is. If you can get a plan, then you can get the same plans online or from a human; there is no difference in the plan or the price. The most important thing is to avoid things that are called "affordable health insurance". These are some of the most expensive plans that exist (although the cost to you may be low if the government pays most of the cost). The plans that are the least expensive and the most affordable are not called "affordable" in their names.
  5. No health insurance that you pay for on your own without an employer, is going to be reasonably priced. People keep asking this question. There is no such animal. Consult an independent insurance agent where you live who knows all the companies in the state and their various plans and find one you can affored. If you get a low deductible the monthly premiums will be higher. I still think for a family Kaiser is the best deal. It is the only HMO with its own hospital and medical centers.
