how does dental insurance work for dentists?

I'm on a pre-dental path hoping to become a dentist. How does the insurance procedure work for dentists? For example, how hard is it for dentists to get money from insurance companies and whats the procedure for getting money? Any information regarding how the business between dentists and insurance companies will be helpful. Also any tips on a successful dental career? Thanks a ton.
