Is there Dental Insurance for individuals without employer coverage?

For the past three years I have worked for major employers who are all turning to contractors and no longer hiring permanent. I have been without medical and dental insurance during that this time and am actively looking for coverage for dental insurance I can get on my own. However I'm not having any luck... Does anyone know of any dental insurance providers I can pay on my own? I am in TX.

  1. The problem with "private" dental insurance is that it has many limitations. Most will pay for 2 cleanings per year and x-rays, but most will have a 6 month waiting period for fillings, tooth extractions. But for any "major" dental work, most require you to pay for 1 year minimum to be covered. Also most plans have a $1,000 cap per year they will pay. So for root canals, crowns etc, you could still be out of pocket a lot. Also, I believe that most may not cover orthodontics. Your best bet is to contact an independent agent to buy both medical/dental in TX. They can give you the best advice for getting a private policy and explain the details. good luck
