Is oral surgery covered by dental plans or major medical?
I was referred to an oral surgeon for widsom tooth removal and they told me I had to front 475 dollars and then they would refund me the portion of the balance not covered by insurance...assuming that I had to use my dental coverage. My question is...wouldn't it be covered by my major medical- BCBS of IL (PPO)?

- Be careful at the dentist. They rape people when they're under the gas. Get a guard for your rectum when you go in for the surgery just to be safe. It'll be okay.
- Nope, about the only time that major medical covers any type of dental costs is if there is some type of injury to the mouth. For example if you were involved in an accident and your mouth was hit and teeth broken or damaged, your major medical would possibly cover that, but just routine dental services are usually covered through dental insurance, and many dental insurances only pay a portion of the dental costs.
- Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time. Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort. However, that does not mean that those sensations will not be experienced. . There is a blog that has some more info that would be interesting http://versedbusters.blogspot.com/
