What kind of medical insurance can an unemployed 19 year old get?

I am 19, currently unemployed and i am living with my mom. I go to the doctor often but we are becoming pretty broke. What medical insurance can i get that can lower the cost of doctor visits and prescriptions. Ive already tried medi-cal but i have a share of cost for some reason. I live in california btw

  1. You should have begun your question "what kind of medical insurance can a resident of California get". Where you live is more important than your age, whether or not you are employed, or anything else. In California, the only common health marketed specifically for young adults (19-23 years old) is "Tonik", from Anthem Blue Cross. You can also apply for any health insurance meant for California residents under 65. The fact that you go to the doctor often at your age is unusual and suggests that you may have a medical condition or health problem that will cause the insurance company to reject you. If this occurs, then you can get insurance from the California Managed Risk Pool or the Preexisting Condition Insurance Plan, but doing so costs over $2000 per month.
  2. Why cant you go on your mother's health insurance? A share of cost for Medi-Cal is when your household income is too high to qualify for Medi-Cal with no share of cost. Your mother's income is being counted on your Medi-Cal application. That is how it is done. You can join Kaiser and if you cant afford Kaiser, you could not afford health insurance. Your option is to become a patient at any county or community clinic and pay cash per service. The charge is usually based on your income. You could get a job at Starbucks, even part time they give health benefits.
  3. What kind of medical insurance can an unemployed 19 year old AFFORD? You have "share of cost" welfare health insurance, because your family isn't poor enough for NO cost welfare health insurance. Keep in mind, preexisting conditions aren't covered, either, under private health insurance. How about getting a job, and if you can't find one, making your OWN job? You can rake leaves, wash cars, shovel walks, paint houses, walk dogs . . . and build a work ethic at the same time as you build your bank account.
