How can I find a cheap but good dental insurance?

I need braces so I want orthodontics to be included. I am considering family insurance since it usually isn't much more.

  1. there is no individual dental insurance that will cover orthodontics for adults typically dental only pays a max of $1000 annually for dental = it's generally no difference in cost with insurance vs no insurance. - insurance will cover a small amount of treatment. - no insurance you don't pay the premium
  2. I think you're under some misguided impression about how much coverage insurance companies EVER pay, for orthodontics. Typically, they only pay HALF, up to $1000 or $1500. Not per year, but PER LIFETIME. You can't buy more than one policy to STACK benefits. With the average cost of braces running $4,000 to $6,000, that means GOOD dental insurance pays 25% of the cost - or less. With private dental insurance, you most likely won't find any orthodontics coverage at all, but if you do, you'll need to carry the coverage a full year, before benefits start kicking in. Oh, and they don't pay that 25% up front - they pay it monthly, over the course of 2 - 3 years, while you keep paying in your premiums. You, however, need to pay YOUR 50% up front. to the orthodontist. With braces, if you WANT it, you have to PAY for it, you can't sucker someone else into paying out a large amount, in exchange for a small amount. You're not the first to think of it, and you sure won't be the last, and the product is structured around that.
  3. You cannot find cheap insurance that includes orthodontics for someone who already needs them. Most insurance only includes things that you do not begin to need until after you get insurance, not things that you already need. Some cheap dental insurance does not include orthodontics, ever. Some includes it, but only after you have had the insurance for a year or two. No cheap dental insurance includes orthodontics immediately. The total cost of getting dental insurance and getting braces with insurance is more than the cost of getting braces without insurance. The cheapest way to get braces is to spend all the money on getting braces without getting dental insurance.
