Health Insurance payment plans?
i have a question...ok so my boyfriend uses MetLife for dental care(because he cant afford real insurance), in which he only pays 11$ per month, and gets major discounts on almost everything. i was wondering if there is anything like that for health care. Right now I have bc/bs, but i have these awful copays, especially for obgyn office (50$). the visit is often more than the medicine. im 21 and I live in florida. i mostly need it for family doctor visits (strep throat, etc) and obgyn if you need more information let me know.

- Yes, there are discount plans for medical care. Most of them are here today and gone tomorrow because the doctors don't even know they are listed and therefore won't give the discounts. If you happen to get a legitimate plan they might give you a 10% discount off of your $200 obgyn charges. Right now with your health insurance you are getting a 75% discount.
- You're ALREADY getting a discount on your services, the "negotiated rate" for the doctor, is probably $80 or so - an out of pocket rate, would be $200. That $50 copay, is better than any "discount plan" you can buy. Don't believe me? Call the OBGYN office, and ask them what the discounted, "cash payment" rate is for an office visit and annual checkup. Don't forget to include the testing costs . . .
- Technically, there is, but it is worse than having nothing. The price with "discounts" can be more than the regular price without discounts. More importantly, if you have to go to the hospital, the bills can be hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of dollars, which you might have to keep paying for the rest of your life. Real insurance is the only way to prevent that.
- Health care policies are different than dental plans, which have long waiting periods for serious work. If you are under 26 you should be on your parents insurance. You could also pay cash at a medical clinic.
