AARP? Health insurance cost?
Does AARP offer health insurance? If so is it only for people who turned 50? My father turned 50 last year and I think he qualifies if he signs up would the health insurance include his wife ( my mom) she's 49 turning 50 in February?

- AARP does not offer any type of insurance. They do contract out with private companies to offer insurance from that company with the AARP brand. Under 65 health insurance is offered through Aetna. Mom needs to wait until she turns 50. There are hundreds of policies available depending on your state and circumstances. Have your dad contact a local agent that works with all of the companies. The agent can find the best plan for him and doesn't charge anything for the service.
- AARP doesn't directly write policies. However, they contract with various carriers to underwrite coverage at group rates. For instance for health coverage from ages 50-65 they have a group plan through Aetna. Since your Dad is 50, he could join AARP already and by virtue of being married to him, your Mom could join now as well. He could visit www.aarp.org to request information. On the Aetna packaging it says he could get the policy and husband-wife coverage is available, regardless of her age. However, I noticed that the Aetna coverage is not necesarily the most competitively priced package so I'm trying to get coverage elsewhere.
