  1. What is your definition of "affordable". I have clients who think their $2700 monthly premium is affordable and others who complain about their $75 monthly premium. With health insurance, you get what you pay for. The cheap "budget" plans leave you paying dearly should one of your sons have an accident. You need to visit a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can help you find the best plan for your situation and budget. They can explain what you get and, more importantly with the cheap policies, what you don't get with each policy. There is no charge using an agent.
  2. Conveniently, California. I pay Anthem Blue Cross approximately $110 per person per month, which would be $440 for a family of four (the actual price varies depending on age, health, and location). That is incredibly affordable, considering that it costs approximately that much per person in New York, so it is like getting three family members for free.
  3. You can't - see, you and your girlfriend are NOT RELATED. You'll have to marry her, and THEN you can try to buy health insurance. Until then, two UNRELATED people cannot get insurance together. Additionally, she clearly can't afford to be working part time - one or both of you are going to need at least one more part time job. With health insurance, you get what you pay for. You're not going to find CHEAP coverage, outside of Medi-Cal - welfare health insurance. Your kids might actually qualify for it, but the adults won't - and again, two NON RELATED adults can't be on the same policy.
