MEPS Physical/Medical/Private Exam?
I'm scheduled to go to MEPS hotel Tuesday night in El Segundo (LA MEPS) and then to MEPS itself Wednesday morning (June 1st). I've looked all over the internet on what all is going to be involved in the physical and medical sections of the exam and can't seem to find a legit answer. 1. What will go down during the physical part & will we have to do that part without any boxers? 2. What will the medical section deal with? 3. During the private exam, what all is going to go on & will I be in my boxers during that part as well? 4. When they do the full body scan, how thorough is it and will I be wearing boxers during this part? Note: I don't really mind standing in front of people without any clothes on (I've played baseball almost all of my life, physicals, showers, etc don't bother me) it's just I have a small spot of red skin on the front part of my pelvic bone and if I'm wearing boxers then the medical practionist will never come across it. Not trying to hide anything, I'm just really needing to ship out in mid July-August and I don't need any hassle of getting a waiver which I hear it can take a good while. If anyone has insight on this, feel free to comment. More recent MEPS visits would probably accomidate better than older ones since standards change here and there. Many thanks!

- 1. They will examine your entire body. Enough said. Odds are - they will get to see the "red spot". Can it pass as a birth mark or something? Rug burn? Hickey? 2. Medical section goes over everything. Be honest but just say enough, too. Don't over talk. They see hundreds of "troops" a day - they don't really want the details and if they do - they'll ask. 3. Face it - the doctor wants to see all your parts. And then you go through almost the exact same thing in basic training again. Your leaders there will see you naked a LOT - so get used to it. Plus, when you do your urine sample, they watch you pee - and I mean WATCH YOU - like stand right there... 12 inches away and stare at your parts - don't pee when you wake up that morning, wait until the test b/c otherwise it is impossible. I had to stay over an extra day because I just couldn't pee. If you can't do it - you can't go to BMT. But then you have to do it AGAIN in BMT and randomly throughout your career so get used to it. 4. Again, it takes about 20 seconds to look over you but they see everything. They miss nothing. The minor tats and scars and moles - they record it all. They are identifying marks. Yes, I did it TEN YEARS AGO!! I'm so old!! But I promise you - things haven't changed much - it is probably a little more scrutinizing nowadays b/c I joined right after 9-11 and they were desperate and nowadays - they don't really need people as bad - so they can be more picky. GOOD LUCK!
