No Insurance in Texas and Dont qualify for medicaid?
If a woman gets pregnant, has no health insurance, and doesnt qualify for medicaid, what are her options in Texas? Health insurance is unaffordable and it is hard for a married woman to qualify for medicaid. Is there any other types of assistance for this situation? payment plans? anything like that. thanks for all the help!

- See if you would qualify for dhs assistance. I know in Oklahoma we have Soonercare that offers assistance to pregnant women that have no insurance. The other option is check with the billing department at your doctors office and see about payment plan options. The last resort is government ran hospitals since they can't refuse to treat a patient. I think going to your local DHS office and seeing if they will offer something. They can't refuse you just cause you're married.
- She has the same option as everyone had before there was insurance, medicaid, assistance, payment plans, etc.: Pay for everything herself, using her money or her husband's money.
- Well, there's always "self pay", or she or her husband can get a new job with access to group health insurance coverage. Regardless of cost, she's uninsurable on private health insurance in TX. Plus, here in TX, I only know of one company that still sells maternity coverage - it costs around $300 a month, has a three month waiting period before conceiving, and has a $5,000 deductible. A homebirth here in Houston, with full prenatal care, costs between $2500 and $3,000 - and all midwives will take payments, as long as you're paid in full by 32 weeks. Our birthing centers also are much cheaper than a hospital, and safer, too - at around $5,000 for a birth, with a "prepaid" discount. Texas, however, is home to the Gabriel Project - a non-denominational group of churches that help women out with crisis pregnancies - you might want to check with them.
