What is the most affordable health insurance in Los Angeles?
I am trying to find health insurance as a 35 yr old male. I have never had insurance before and don't have any illnesses. What is the most cost effective health insurance that will cover me and will allow me to go get a "tune up" quickly?

- The one through your work, because your employer kicks in a huge chunk of it. Or, you can buy a "high deductible" insurance policy, where you pay the first $5,000 of medical bills - you can probably get that for around $150 - 200 a month (plus, of course, the first $5K of medical bills) But if you need a 'tune up', that implies there's an issue. Any preexisting issue isn't going to be covered. If you're just looking for a checkup, it will be cheaper to pay that out of pocket, than buy insurance.
- The most affordable insurance is the insurance plan where you agree to participate in the cost of your health care. That means your health plan would tend toward higher deductibles, higher co-pays and higher out of pocket expenses. As you start adding coverages you no longer have the most affordable plan. Kind of like buying a car, as you upgrade the make and model and start adding options the monthly payments keep going up. If you choose the most affordable plan in Los Angeles you will most certainly be paying out of pocket for your "quick tune up".
- You should consult with an independent insurance agent who is familiar with the insurance companies that operate in California and the various plans. You can compare them to Kaiser. Maybe you can find a job with health plan, or wait until the 2014 insurance exchange is ready.
- Health insurance prices in California can very from place to place, even within a single city. For ZIP code 90001, the least expensive insurance for a person your age who is not a student or a smoker would be HealthNet's "CFB Budget PPO NG $7,500 deductible", which costs $82 per month to have. It costs an additional $50 for the office visit.
