  1. What do you consider "affordable"? I have a client who thinks his $2700 per month premium is affordable while others complain about their $100 per month premium. Affordable to someone who is healthy is different than it is to someone who has pre-existing conditions. In fact, if he has certain pre-existing conditions he can't get a policy at any price, affordable or otherwise. Also, a low cost budget plan that has few benefits can actually be higher cost if you need medical services because those budget plans will have many limitations. He needs to contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in his area. The agent can work with him to find the best plan for his situation and budget. There is no charge for the agent. Do not try to do this over the internet unless he is perfectly healthy and you know everything there is to know about health insurance.
  2. This may vary somewhat depending on age, health, ZIP code, etc. The most affordable insurance seems to be from HealthGear from CoventryOne. For example, using age 21 (born 1/1/1990) and ZIP code 52801 (Davenport), there were four "HealthGear" options from CoventryOne, ranging from $23.38 to $39.64 per month. This is remarkable, considering that I do not recall seeing anything under $45 per month anywhere in the country, for anyone, before this, so the $23.38 plan would be only half the price of the cheapest thing that I have seen outside of the Quad Cities.
  3. Not having any idea what the quad cities area is (any place in the USA where there are four cities close together?) I can tell you that if he's already got stuff wrong, his BEST bet, is COBRA - continuing the coverage he had through his employer. No private insurance will cover the stuff he already has wrong, and depending on where you live and what those things are, they flat out might refuse to insure him althogether. If you REALLY want to get him on yours through your work, you can get the marriage license Monday, and be married by Friday.
