I recently needed medical care while i was on vacation. I did not have my insurance card with me at the time so they charged me without one. I was billed $613. My question is with my insurance Aetna how much will the bill be cut down too? Im stressing it big time serious answers only please!

  1. That depends on if the procedure was a covered procedure or not and performed by a network provider or not. You need to call Aetna and ask them how to put in a claim for reimbursement.
  2. My guess is that it will not be cut down at all, and might even be increased. Since you were on vacation, you probably went out of network, which means that Aetna cannot reduce the amount that the doctor/hospital/clinic/etc. get paid. Also, your out-of-network deductible is probably at least $1000, meaning that Aetna will not be paying anything unless you have met your deductible because of other bills earlier in the year. If $613 was the regular price, you will probably have to pay that. If $613 was a discounted price for patients without insurance, which they erroneously charged you because you did not have your insurance card, then, when you inform them that you have insurance or try to get them to bill your insurance, they will correct the mistake and charge you the regular price (without the uninsured patient discount).
  3. It's not going to be "cut down" at all unless you contact the medical provider(s) you used with your insurance information and ask them to submit an insurance claim. The responsibility is yours to make that happen.
