Can I be denied group coverage for pre-existing conditions?

or conditions related to pre-existing one in health insurance? For anything including medical visits? I have COBRA group health insurance through my previous employer. I did not have it for too long, I did not work there long. I have also individual health insurance that I had since 2006 and the condition was detected more than year ago (hypertension). Because I always had coverage should not I be eligible for pre-existing exclusion waiver? I hate insurance companies. I live in Illinois. I still have group coverage until Feb 28 (unless I decide to renew but I won't too expensive)

  1. Is this a serious post? If so, it seems you are not aware of the meaning of the word "insurance". It means guarding against the possibility of something happening. That is the whole idea of insurance. Nobody on earth will insure a pre-existing condition
  2. 1. You cannot be denied the ability to get group coverage. 2. If you have no coverage at all for over two months, you lose your eligibility for the exclusion waiver, and will not be covered for preexisting conditions for the first 6-18 months after you get coverage again. 3. If you keep coverage continuously, then preexisting conditions should be covered and not excluded.
  3. If you have prior credible coverage with a lapse in coverage less than 63 days, the new group insurer cannot exclude coverage for preexisting conditions. It doesn't matter if the prior policy was individual or group, as long as it's "credible coverage", and THAT policy didn't exclude coverage for your condition. Typically, short term medical coverage is NOT "credible coverage". If your private policy covered that condition, most likely it IS credible coverage, and the new insurer cannot exclude the coverage for the preexisting condition.
