Is it legal for our medical insurance to send my husband details of all my doctor visits?

I have medical insurance from my "common law" husbands work and the insurance company has been sending him a letter detailing all of my doctor visits. Is this legal? At very least it is a terrible violation of my privacy. Has anyone else had this issue?

  1. No it's not. You should write a letter to the hospital citing a violation of your HIPPA rights and threaten to sue if they don't cease and desist immediately.
  2. Call them and tell them! They can send a bill if he is the primary on the insurance but your details cannot be on the bill that is against the law. Do research on Hippa
  3. Actually it is legal. He has a right to know what he is paying for and a detailed bill is perfectly legal. If they are sending actuall hospital/doctor reports addressed to him that may be a different story, hippa pertains to hospital/nursing homes/doctors not insurance. If you want to keep complete privacy then you need separate insurance. I realized this when my dad knew I had a pregnancy test from the insurance bill and I was over 21
