I need help, I have no medical insurance and I am pregnant.?
I am about 10 weeks pregnant and have no medical insurance. I have applied for medicaid and for the Texas CHIP perinatal care program and have been denied for both because I make too much money. I heard about this program called the Maternity card so I called about that, none of the doctors in my area have ever heard of it and would not take it. I am so scared, there is no way that I can afford to have this baby and pay private pay. They want 600.00 up front and have 3,000.00 paid off by the time I am 6 months. I have other children and don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas, I am so worried that I will end up not having any prenatal care and having this baby at home. I already know that if I did not have insurance then I should have not gotten pregnant, please don't tell me that I already know but now that I am what can I do?

- have you looked into free (or low-cost) clinics?
- Look into this.... http://www.aim.ca.gov/english/AIMhome.asp i applied for medi-cal too & i was denied for no cost medical because of how much i make. So i pretty much have to pay about $900 bucks...if i get a bill for more than that then medi-cal will cover it. But anything under $900 i have to pay. Like a detuctible pretty much. also call ur local hospitals & they can set up some sort of payment plan with u. good luck!
- I know for sure there are programs for pregnant woman. Try planned parenthood & ask them for some resources. There should be free clinics or free programs through the hospital. There's always help being given to pregnant woman. Good luck.
- maybe planned parenthood could help you or even suggest someplace. i wish you luck and take care of yourself
- Don't give up continue to contact your public services department, in California even if you make to much to qualify for medical they will cover you throughout your pregnancy. Find somewhere that offers assisstance to uninsured pregnant women. Call the local hospitals and ask them if they know of any programs that you would benefit from. Good Luck
- You shouldn't have had sex, duh! If you can't afford to have a baby then keep your legs together! It's not my responsibility as a taxpayer to take care of your child just because you were irresponsible.
- Is there a community resource referral line in your area? What about calling a crisis pregnancy clinic? They will be able to help with prenatals and exams and possibly help with insurance info. Good luck.
- you cannot be denied for insurance because of pregnancy. call them and bitch (excuse my language) every day. They have a plan that you can pay for if you make too much. If you are pregnant they are negligent if they do not help. Trust me, I went through this in Maryland. You can also call doctors in the meantime. Most will see you for a small fee per appointment for the sole reason that you need medical care. You could also go to a hospital and request a case manager or call your local health department about the issue. Do not give up because you will find someone to help.
- well...if you don't qualify for medicaid, then you are going to have to pay up. So, find the cheapest insurance and get a go on it, you really don't need prenatal care till 3 month so you have a few weeks...good luck! Unfortunately, if you make money, you are going to have to pay up...that's how this world works! I know it's not fair but that's are society...
- Try plan parenthood there is also an orginization in my county called cca. Christian Community Action they may be able to help. Check with churches in your area alot of them are good at referring people that are in situations like yours. Or you could get a lower paying job and re-apply i know that's not a likely solution, how does baby's father come into play with this?? Just curious maybe he could help out and let you get a job that pays less just for the pregnancy so you can get no cost care. Goodluck! 23 weeks it's a girl
- I'm in the same boat as you. (Live in Texas, make too much for Medicaid/CHIP, and am self-employed and there's no way I can get private health insurance due to pre-existing conditions.) I found a fantastic doctor who set up a payment plan with me, which I've been slowly paying off at each prenatal visit. Since I'm a private pay, I get a lot of discounts on doctor visits and lab work. Since you probably won't be able to do the same thing as me, contact some local pregnancy clinics in your area, or maybe even Planned Parenthood. A lot of them will try to work something out with you based on a sliding scale of your income. The only bummer is the hospital costs when the time comes when you'll actual have to deliver. Depending on where you are in Texas, a lot of the local churches will help pay most of all of your hospital bills, especially if you're married, but sometimes if you're not. (Heck, my gay brother got treatment paid for a stroke - which was a $50K bill, because of one of the Ft. Worth Methodist churches.) If the baby's father is involved, you can see if you can get put on his insurance, if he has any. If he isn't involved, you can try to get some reimbursement on some (up to half) of you prenatal care when/if you sue him for child support. Good luck!
- I don't have insurance either. There may be other options. I live in Nevada, so I'm not sure what is specific to your state. But, many hospitals have special programs that either provide great discounts or free care. I know that in NV, our university medical center has a "baby steps" program which is only $1500 before birth. St. Rose hospitals also have a program called "baby rose". So more than likely the hospitals in your area will have a program as well. Good luck and Congratulations!
