What is a good health insurance company for individuals in Texas?

I'm looking to get an MRI but first I'd need insurance to help pay for it. Who is a good provider for individuals in TX?

  1. There are several very good health insurance companies for individual in Texas. However, they all underwrite their policies, which means if you have a health condition that requires an MRI it at least won't be covered and at most would result in them declining to offer you a policy. Your only viable option would be a group plan through an employer, which will cover the MRI after you go through the waiting period.
  2. If you already need an MRI, the only insurance that will cover a preexisting condition in Texas, is Medicare, or Medicaid. If you sign up for new insurance, don't disclose the injury/problem on your application, and submit a bill within the first year for an MRI, they're going to deny it. Then you'll be "busted" for lying and rather than being mad because you couldn't pull a fast one on the insurance company, you'll be mad at THEM, for catching you out.
  3. There is no good health insurance company for individuals who are looking to get an MRI. If you simply want an MRI for your own enjoyment, and there is no medical reason to get it, then no insurance will help pay for it. If you want it as a routine screening, but there is no more of a medical reason for you to get it than for anyone else of your age to get it, then no insurance will help pay for it. If there is a medical reason why you need it more than a typical person your age does, then either (a) you will not be able to get health insurance as an individual, or (b) getting the health insurance will cost you more money than an MRI costs without health insurance.
