In Texas - How does getting health insurance coverage for a newborn work?
My husband and I have health insurance (CIGNA), but due to the timing of our pregnancy the pregnancy itself has not been covered. Does anyone know the rules regarding getting our newborn onto our policy (she's due Jan. 11th). I've seen several places that there's a 30 day period of non coverage? Just wanting to know so we ensure her wellness checks and immunizations, etc. are covered. Thanks!

- the way my insurance worked was it covered my pregnancy & delivery. after i had my daughter her doctor's office waved the fee for 2 months i think. & when she was put on my insurance it was backed 3 months to cover all of her doctor bills. [my daughter was born in June, she was accepted on my insurance in august, & my insurance went back to June & covered all of her bills] you should talk to your insurance provider & see what you have to do to add your child [you can't actually add her until after she's born] but you can see how they do it & what you'll have to pay for & what you wont. --hope it helps :)
- We must have different versions of CIGNA, that's what my husband has and it covered me and my children (2 are his step-children) from the date of marriage. We were pregnant with our first together about 1 month after we were married and my maternity was completely covered, when the baby was born he was covered for 30 days automatically so everything was paid for, then we had to provide paperwork regarding his birth from the hospital and his social security number after we applied for and received his card and I got his very own insurance card about a month or so later, it did not take them long. We are on CIGNA Open Access though, there are several versions of CIGNA out there PPO, HMO, etc...... Whenever I have a question I usually call the 800 number on the back of the card, they are very friendly and very helpful with anything and everything in my experience, so if I were you I would just give them a call!!! Best wishes and congrats on your baby :)
