  1. you have to take a look at your OOP (out of pocket) expenses when chosing any Medicare Advantage Plan. Your monthly premium, co-pay with the "buy up plans" in comparison to the "traditional" Medicare plan where you pay 20% OOP unless you have a supplement. Some buy up plans require you to have your primary care doc be the gate keeper to refer u to a specialist too. Many things must be placed into consideration.
  2. aarp is just a supplement ins, and they are expensive too.don't do anything with aarp they are just hoax..
  3. The AARP is not an insurance company. They promote Medicare supplemental policies for companies who pay them for an endorsement. You should consult with an independent insurance agent who sells Medi-gap policies who knows what's available in your area. Original Medicare or Medicare Advantage both cost the same, $110 a month unless your income is over $85 annually the premium is higher. Look in the new 2011 Medicare book for the plans available in your region.
  4. Medicare pays 80%, and your supplement insurance pays 20% of an illness. Some insurance companies drop seniors at age 85 (but not all). Get the free Medicare booklet. Be sure to find the pages that show you the companies and what they will or will not pay. Medicare has several policies. Always get the policy with "in home care" from Medicare if you can afford it. As seniors grow older, most need operations such as on the knees, hip, shoulders, etc. A nurse will come to your home each day to make sure you are healing correctly. They will even help you bathe if needed. Go to or call a Medicare employee (also over the internet) that will talk with you and lead you as to what to buy. In the past, preexisting illnesses played a big part in how much you have to pay an insurance company. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` Go to this Medicare website. Be sure to go all the way to the bottom of the screen: http://www.medicare.gov/callcenter.asp Here is a Medicare phone number to help with your questions: 1-800-633-4227
  5. I am on original medicare which is $97.50 a month that is automatically taken out of your SS check so you never see it. I also have AARP ins. which is a supplement that picks up and pays the 20% that medicare does not pay. That runs around $155 per person ( you get a discount if both husband and wife have it ) a month. There are a LOT of plans out there BUT some plans don't pay! we have never had to pay a cent on any of our medical bills. According to friends who have different cheaper plans their plans don't pay for a lot of their medical leaving them with big bills and they have switched to AARP supplement ( which you can only do once a year) You also have to ask your Dr. -no matter what plan you have - if he accepts medicare if he does not find a Dr. who does as you will end up paying a big bill. I never have to worry about paying anything other then the monthly to AARP. Original medicare and AARP medicare supplement . Edit: AARP is through United Insurance Co. but it is cheaper to go through AARP - the plan to have is plan C
  6. AARP is a political scam, and don't help you unless you buy and support the products they recommend
