- Look, they all charge about the same, and most of them exclude orthodontics, flat out. Orthodontics coverage is EXTREMELY limited, because only people who wanted to use it, would ever buy it.
- Look at the coverage and conditions carefully. Many dental plans don't cover orthodontia at all - and even if they do, "major work" like ortho, crowns, extractions, root canals, etc., are virtually always excluded for the first 12 months that the policy is in force. That's to prevent people who know that they need major work from buying a policy, immediately having expensive work done and then dropping the coverage.
- Every state has different insurance company, plans and prices. Thats why it is advisable to call a local independent insurance agent who knows all the plans in your region. It is hard to find a decent individual plan. You can get cheap insurance but it wont cover much and they all having waiting periods for serious work. Each company has different priced plans with different amount of covered benefits. There is also Blue Cross. Then there are dental plans which are differnt from insurance. Where I live, the dentists dont accept most of the individual plans that are offered so I gave up.
