What prompted the sudden Soviet style Government TSA enhanced feel up and naked body scan policy?

Was there a real scary threat recently that the public has not been told about or is Obama absolutey determined to be a one-term president?

1. Two major reasons: First, the underwear bomber of last year, and various security tests that were conducted, especially by the GAO. They had hoped the new scanner would solve the security gaps. But if some people say no, we don't want to walk through it, then you have to have something on the same par to replace it, which would be the pat downs.
2. This whole debate is nonsense. People already have the option of not submitting to an X ray scan by submitting to a "pat down". Or vice versa. So, simply form two separate lines and get on with it. If the "pat down" line becomes too long, I am sure that many of the instant "civil libertarians" will suddenly become more flexible. But, if they do not and if they miss their plane, that is simply the price to be paid for their principles. I am sure they will not mind since they seem so dedicated to the cause, so to speak.
