I have had about 15 cat scans done, is this bad? I'm about 40.?
Had about 6-7 abdomin, the rest were head and neck. Also had a gamma radiation(bone scan) done on my hand. They keep ordering more cats and never bother to ask how many I've had. I also had one full body cat scan.

- If your feeling as though this is effecting you in a negative way then ask before any more are preformed. It is your right to know all the effects of any medical procedure.
- It's interesting that they keep performing CAT scans like this. Doesn't your doctor talk with you and ask your medical history before ordering more scans? What have they found up until now? Is your doctor aware of your past history? I think what we have here is a failure to communicate. Talk with your doctor and tell him of your concerns. He shouldn't just keep ordering scans. And he should have been communicating the findings to you. You have a right to discuss your medical condition with your doctor, learn what he's found, and how he plans to treat whatever it is he's found. You can't just keep getting scans. They do involve a significant amount of radiation.
- If they cannot figure you out with 15 CT scans, perhaps they should try something else. That is a fair amount of radiation. There is a lifetime dose you really do not want to exceed. Consider insisting on MRI, that does not use X-ray to produce an image. You really have to speak up to the doctor. It's easy: " Hey-- I have already had 15 of these , and you don't have an answer yet- think we should try something different?" If your current docs are having trouble making a diagnosis, seek a more expert opinion. If the scans are being done to follow some disease, another imaging method may work just as well or better.
