- How about you stop trolling in this forum? You've asked this before many times. But you really don't need health insurance. If you're indigent, hospitals still have to treat you. Just go to county/USC and get in line.
- I recommend you this site where you can compare quotes so you can find the best option for you http://insuranceq.notlong.com
- The thing is, health insurance is a business, so you really can't expect to pay less overall than the services you intend to use. Think about it. Many people don't seem to understand that. Insurance companies are in business to make money, so they must charge a certain amount so they make a profit. While some people pay less than the services they use, some pay way more, like me, we pay about $1500 a month with a high deductible HSA PPO plan, and we rarely use it (which is why we get the high deductible, low deductible is $1800 a month). That's the true cost of insuring a family with good insurance, without an employer subsidizing a portion. (That's with a large group discount for a big corporation, my dh has to pay the full amount because he's considered one of the business owners, rather than an employee, employees pay way less, because the employer pays a large portion of the actual cost.) So when you go to buy individual insurance, they charge you based on which plan, how much of your health care you will pay yourself (deductible), your age, health, etc. With healthy people, they don't know who is going to end up sick, so they calculate what is likely to happen with everyone's health, and spread the risk around the whole group of people in your category. If you have known health issues, then of course they are going charge more. How could they charge $200 a month if your services and prescriptions are costing $500 a month? Your best bet is Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO/HMO, and Kaiser HMO, for a balance of price, and actually finding a doctor who takes the insurance, and the doctor getting paid (because if they don't get paid, they can come after you, and they will). If you're young, Kaiser has a lower cost young people's plan. From the government you can get Medi-Cal if you make under a certain income, or have certain health issues, kids can get Healthy Families, if you are high risk and basically *uninsurable* there is MRMIP. Medi-Cal http://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/ Healthy Families http://www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov/ MRMIP http://www.mrmib.ca.gov/MRMIB/MRMIP.shtml You can go into a hospital for ER care, but they will bill you and try hard to collect. Unless you have nothing (like no job, bank accounts, etc) they will go after you, it's not like it was in the past where they would let things slide. Some walk in clinics have a sliding scale of how much they charge depending on your income. You can pay cash to a doctor, and ask for a discount, maybe about 20%. Some will go for it. Good luck!
