How much does it cost for a normal delivery in California with health insurance?

I am want to hear all of the details about the delivery. My mom said you have to pay before even being admitted to get delivered... I am under United Health Care so I was just wondering if anyone knew the costs due before delivery, and how much it ended up being afterwards? Los Robles hospital is where it's happening at.

  1. In New York State a woman in labour is taken care of medically before insurance is processed, like with most medical emergencies. If you have a scheduled c-section, you may have to pay ahead of time to speed up the process. You should check with your OB/GYN to see what he or she will do with your specific case and insurance.
  2. every insurance is different....you need to contact your insurance carrier directly. i have Kaiser in California, and we did not have to pay anything for delivery or hospital stay. the only thing i had to pay for was prenatal doctor office co-pays. some insurances make you pay a hospital co-pay that could be inexpensive or very expensive. depends on what kind of coverage you have. again, you need to contact your insurance carrier directly to review your coverage.
  3. You need to check what plan you have. You do not need to pay everything before you give birth, because you don't know what you will be billed for yet. You may have a co-pay though. I had United Health Care for my last birth. I had a high deductible PPO. I had to pay all the prenatal visits out of pocket but they were applied to the deductible. After the birth my midwives billed insurance and I got reimbursed for everything except around $500. For a regular vaginal birth with no epidural, Expect $5000-$7000. Medicated will cost $10-15,000. C-section $25,000+. This is why you bill insurance first before you pay the bill.

  5. With my insurance plan it was $250 on checkout from the hospital, i was there from friday morning till tues afternoon. prescriptions were $15. It was a vaginal delivery but it didnt matter it was a flat rate for the birth no matter how i delivered. Call your insurance and ask what your copay is.
