How did we get away from major medical insurance for ER and Hospital visits, cash to the primary docs?
to these gigantic all powerful insurance companies who raise the rates for everyone? In the old way, you'd work out payment with your doctor, either a payment plan, some sort of barter, or cash. The major medical only covered catastrophic events like accidents and major illnesses. Of course, major medical would also be illegal under Obamacare, too, so we're not going back that direction.

- Actually it all started with HMO's and the co-pay, which allowed people to take their child to the Dr. if they sneezed. Guess who the number one person responsible for HMO's being allowed was? Hint: He drove off a bridge and let a women die.
- We need to elect TEA party candidates and repeal and replace ObamaCare.
- You have HMO's and deregulation to thank for that . Believe me , if they can find a way to steal another nickel they will try it .
- The old way was done when ailments that could not be solved by primary doctors lead to death. If you had cancer, you had a death sentence. Now, there are expensive drug therapies, expensive surgeries and expensive tests. With catastrophic coverage, you may not have the coverage to get the expensive test because you will not pay over $1000 dollars or your insurance does not cover for a MRI that help detect the life threatening condition. Even with catastrophic coverage, it must be universal to avoid the problem of adverse selection where those who need coverage is priced out because the necessary price to cover those are sick in the pool now but rich enough to pay for it is too high for those who need it. Where in the law is high deductible insurance, catastrophic insurance, illegal or unlawful? The government may set the standard but nothing in the bill make high deductible insurance illegal.
