What are some affordable health insurance options for those with preexisting conditions, here in Wisconsin?
I have a friend who is 31 years old, and is unable to find health insurance due to the fact that she had a heart attack a few years ago. I'm sure that she is only one of thousands of people in the same situation..but there has got to be some way to get affordable health insurance for her, here in Wisconsin. Is there anyone out there who has been in this situation, and has lucked out in finding affordable health insurance? We have been looking, but as of right now...to no avail.

- You have to call a local independent insurance agent in your area who knows what companies and what plans might cover her. If she lost her job she might get COBRA. If she is disabled she can try to get Medicaid. That is the reason for Obama's insurance exchange and law prohibiting all insurers from refusing to cover people but it does not take effect for 4 years unless the lawsuits are successful to challenge the bill. She can go to any clinic for medical care and pay a low fee according to her income. Look up low cost or low income clinics and name of town. If she has an emergency any hospital will treat her but not follow up. I have found good clinics within Catholic Hospitals and affiliated with county hospitals. I am sure there is a referral service you can call.
- If she doesn't qualify for welfare health insurance, Medicaid or Medicare, she wants the Wisconsin Health Insurance Risk Sharing Plan. The mission of the HIRSP Authority is to provide access to high quality, affordable healthcare for all eligible Wisconsin residents. HIRSP offers health insurance to Wisconsin residents who either are unable to find adequate health insurance coverage in the private market due to their medical conditions or who have lost their employer-sponsored group health insurance. Applicants are required to meet HIRSP eligibility criteria to qualify.
- with the new health insur laws, it should be easier to get insured but it probably won't be cheap if you have a pre-existing condition
