Where can I get cheap health/dental insurance in N.H?
Hi I'm a full time student living in N.H and going to school in N.H, I recently turned 19 and am no longer covered under medicaid. I applied for medicaid thinking it was like other states, where there was a medicaid for kids and a medicaid for adults. However I was incorrect and will not receive medicaid unless disabled. I desperately need health insurance and dental insurance. I have no preexisting conditions and am great condition. I have checked my school for insurance and they do not offer it, instead they directed me to a few private insurance companies nearby, which i fear may be extremely expensive. I cannot afford plans that are too expensive, yet I need dental and health coverage.

- Your best bet is a high-deductible policy which will cover catastrophic costs. You would be responsible for any costs up to the deductible. These plans can be very affordable. It is what I had when I bought my own health insurance. I did not buy dental insurance. I bought my health insurance through Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but I would check out the ones the school recommended. For routine medical care, see if your school has a health clinic for minor illnesses.
- Private insurance is very expensive but if you want to do that, call a local independent insurance agent in the area who knows whats available. Dental insurance does not do much except for cleaning and for serious work, there is a long wait time for services. Why arent you going under your parents insurance plan as of September 23rd until you are 26 years old, thats under the new Affordable Health Care Act. You dont have to be a student, just as long as you have no employer insurance. If you were turned down for Medicaid, you must be over 21 or have too much income. In my state there is only one program except for pregnancy. Dental services do not exist for adults in my state under Medicaid. Why do you desperately need insurance if you are in good health? You can always go to a clinic as needed and pay for the visit in cash. There is a dental/medical credit card called Care Credit you might want to apply for.
