How does dental insurance work? Do dentists accept any kind?

I need Braces/Invisalign as soon as possible and i have been shopping 4 d best dental insurance. When i go to a dentist, they ask if i have dental insurance. If i do, do they accept any kind i have so far it covers my braces/invisalign? Or is there a specific kind each dentist accepts> Thanks. I don't want to get a plan then find out that a dentist does not accept it. That kind of stuff.
