What medical insurance will cover medical supplies for a 20 year old male with type 1 diabetes?

I need an insurance that will pay for my $500+ in medical expenses that I am currently paying out of pocket. Some information that may effect what you recommend to me: - I am married - I am in college with no side jobs - I live in Michigan Any help?

  1. Unfortunately, the only major medical coverage you'd be able to get at the present time would be either a group policy through an employer or Medicaid. For Medicaid you'll need to qualify based on income. With a group policy there will probably be a waiting period before your pre-existing conditions are coverage. No individual plan will accept you without a rider for the diabetes and most individual plans will outright decline you. There are a few defined benefit plans that will cover you after a waiting period but they will probably only cover 10 - 15% of those costs if that. Contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area to see what may be available.
  2. Well, LOTS of insurances will do this - but they're not going to give you a policy for less than the known costs, PLUS some extra, for the unknown costs. And frankly, in MI, you're not going to find private insurance willing to cover a type 1 diabetic, AT ALL, until 2014. And THEN, the price will be sky high. Your best bet, is going to be getting a real job, with health insurance through your employer. You can't afford the luxury of being a full time college student, unless your spouse is willing/able to support you.
