My friend needs a surgery which is going to cost a lot. She doesn't have insurance . she is under the age of 18. She says that the only way an insurance company will cover it if the insurance is like from oxford or something like that.She said it was like only private insurance companies. Why is only private insurance companies that can cover it. Can Obama's health care plan cover the surgery. city is new york in case it is needed

1. Obama's health care plan was rejected. The new health care plan is Congress's plan, not Obama's. More importantly, it does not cover anything until at least 2014. She might qualify for "child health plus", a New York State program.
2. "Obama's health care plan" does not mean free healthcare or free insurance. If your friend is a minor, this is a matter for her parents to handle.
3. If your friend is under age, is she covered on her parents insurance plan? If not, is she covered by the family Medicaid plan? Since she is under 18, she needs parental consent for surgery. Where did she find the doctor who said she needs surgery? There is a NY health plan so read the link below.
