dental insurance question?

I belong to Cigna dental insurance. Could anyone explain why some peoples dental insurances cover all the costs for dental check ups, x rays, fillings, crowns etc. and other dental insurances only cover a portion of the bill and the patient has to pay the rest? I went to a dentist recently and I had to pay $188.00 for x rays and a teeth cleaning (first time visit). My insurance paid $97.00 of the total bill which was $285.00 which includes a $25.00 annual deductible. Why couldnt my insurance pay for the entire bill of $285.00, whereas some people dont have to pay a nickel for it?

  1. Most dental insurance companies pay for preventative care (cleaning, x-rays) 100% and you have to pay a portion for small procedures (fillings) and large procedures(crowns). If not, it's a bad insurance.
  2. These are questions best asked to your insurance company. Whatever they tell you, the bottom line is the profit margin for them. Every dollar they don't have to pay out ends up in their pockets.
