My COBRA ends soon. Need to find individual health ins plan with a 0 deductible and 0% "co-ins"...?
- Seems like all health ins for individuals have huge "deductibles" meaning i have to pay $2k-$4K of medical costs before the insurance kicks in. I want a $0 deductible like my current ins (which is thru old employer thru COBRA.) - Seems like they all also have a huge "co-insurance", 10%-20%, which (i believe but am not certain, which if true means that the nomenclature "co-insurance" is GROSSLY misleading) means that the ins covers only 80-90% of bills, and I have to pay the remaining 10-20%. These plans are @ $500/month plus all those deductibles and "co-ins" will come out to $10K/year!! My doctors don't take most of the individual plans I've found except united healthcare and oxford. I'd pay $1K for a simple plan that simply covered everything. Help! Does anyone know of any such plans I can get in NYC? TIA

- zero deductible means a lot higher cost. low co pay means higher premium. this is why we need reform. i never meet the deductible on any health plan ive ever had. i think the solution is either finding an employer with insurance that can cover you., move to another country that would cover you or hope we get the reform . it might be more economical to live overseas.
- There are no "simple" plans and a "zero-zero" option is probably unrealistic. The lower deductible and co-pay options you select, the higher the premiums are going to be. See an insurance broker that handles individual health policies and get some options.
- Paying $1K per month would cost you $12K per year. Paying $500K per month plus a $2k-$4k deductible would cost you $8K-$10K per year. The plans that you have found are a better deal than what you are requested. What you say you want would cost more, not less. If you are still willing to pay $1K per month to avoid having to pay the $2K-$4K deductible out-of-pocket, then sign up for a $500/month and send $500 per month to the insurance company and $500 per month ($6000 per year) to me. After I have received the $6000 from you, I will pay the $2K-$4K deductible for you (and keep the remaining $2K-$4K for myself).
