Is this full body scan thing that is at some airports right now safe?

Like what does it use to scan you? is it an xray machine? is it safe? Just wondering....

1. It is perfectly safe. It used a low-dosage x-ray I believe, a lower dosage than you would receive at the hospital, if my memory is serving me right.
