Does Ameriplan Dental and Health Discount plan really provide a worthwhile discount at healthcare providers?

Not really interested in the business end of it,Interested in the plan itself though if anyone has the business side experience feel free to tell me about it.

  1. With a discount plan you MAY receive a discount, but you don't necessarily receive one. And with health care if you have a heart attack and the hospital bills run $250,000 do you really want a coupon for that? Health insurance will give you the same discount (if not better) and pay for most of the $250,000 if you buy the right plan. Discount dental is a fine product because insurance generally only covers $1500 per year anyway instead of the millions of dollars that insurance can cover.
  2. It depends what treatment you'll be having done at the dentist's office...Ameriplan and other discount plans work on a simple principle: you pay a monthly/annual membership-type fee to Ameriplan and they in turn keep a roster of 'preferred' providers that will accept that plan. In exchange for receiving the referral - the dentist will give you a discount for paying him/her directly at the time of treatment. So look at the numbers; what will you pay for the annual/monthly 'premium' vs. the actual cost of the treatment you'll need done. So if your'e paying $50.00 month for the plan ($600/yr) and you need only a cleaning (approx. $250); then, is it worth it to you? Hope this helps
  3. Generally, no. But the way for you to test it, is to call your own doctor or dentist, and ask them how much of a discount they give Ameriplan subscribers. Or just start calling doctors at random, in the phone book.
  4. Maybe not,but u can ask ur doctor if he or someone else gives.
