What hot spots on a bone scan may mean?

I went in for a bone scan for my foot to check for a stress fracture. They did a full body scan, just to be thorough. Strangely enough, they found a hot spot on one rib and one on my skull. After the bone scan results came back, the orthopedist I saw for the foot issue had some x-rays done on my rib and skull to look for any obvious signs of bone cancer. All X-rays were negative on the rib/skull, i.e. no fractures seen and no other "abnormalities". My question is what the heck may be the cause of those hot spots? I feel perfectly fine health-wise. FYI: I'm scheduling an appointment with my family doctor at the advice of the ortho. Better safe than sorry when it gets down to it. Thanks!

1. Well, these "hot spots" as you call them are actually tiny fires that are actually sitting right under the surface of your skin. These tiny fires are actually the leading cause of athletes foot, i suggest amputation before the fire spreads to your thighs or worse.
2. The hot spots can be from any metabolically active process. Pagets disease, trauma, myelome etc. So it probably needs some blood tests> See your GP he can do this
