REPUBLICANS/CONSERVATIVES, What do you think about health-care reform after reading this?
Lie #1: President Obama wants to euthanize your grandma!!! The truth: These accusations—of "death panels" and forced euthanasia—are, of course, flatly untrue. As an article from the Associated Press puts it: "No 'death panel' in health care bill."1 What's the real deal? Reform legislation includes a provision, supported by the AARP, to offer senior citizens access to a professional medical counselor who will provide them with information on preparing a living will and other issues facing older Americans.2 If you'd like to read the actual section of the legislation that spawned these outrageous claims (Section 1233 of H.R. 3200) for yourself, here it is. It's pretty boring stuff, which is why the accusations that it creates "death panels" is so absurd. But don't take our word for it, read it yourself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #2: Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan!!! The truth: With reform, choices will increase, not decrease. Obama's reform plans will create a health insurance exchange, a one-stop shopping marketplace for affordable, high-quality insurance options.3 Included in the exchange is the public health insurance option—a nationwide plan with a broad network of providers—that will operate alongside private insurance companies, injecting competition into the market to drive quality up and costs down.4 If you're happy with your coverage and doctors, you can keep them.5 But the new public plan will expand choices to millions of businesses or individuals who choose to opt into it, including many who simply can't afford health care now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #3: President Obama wants to implement Soviet-style rationing!!! The truth: Health care reform will expand access to high-quality health insurance, and give individuals, families, and businesses more choices for coverage. Right now, big corporations decide whether to give you coverage, what doctors you get to see, and whether a particular procedure or medicine is covered—that is rationed care. And a big part of reform is to stop that. Health care reform will do away with some of the most nefarious aspects of this rationing: discrimination for pre-existing conditions, insurers that cancel coverage when you get sick, gender discrimination, and lifetime and yearly limits on coverage.6 And outside of that, as noted above, reform will increase insurance options, not force anyone into a rationed situation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #4: Obama is secretly plotting to cut senior citizens' Medicare benefits!!! The truth: Health care reform plans will not reduce Medicare benefits.7 Reform includes savings from Medicare that are unrelated to patient care—in fact, the savings comes from cutting billions of dollars in overpayments to insurance companies and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.8 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lie #5: Obama's health care plan will bankrupt America!!! The truth: We need health care reform now in order to prevent bankruptcy—to control spiraling costs that affect individuals, families, small businesses, and the American economy. Right now, we spend more than $2 trillion dollars a year on health care.9 The average family premium is projected to rise to over $22,000 in the next decade10—and each year, nearly a million people face bankruptcy because of medical expenses.11 Reform, with an affordable, high-quality public option that can spur competition, is necessary to bring down skyrocketing costs. Also, President Obama's reform plans would be fully paid for over 10 years and not add a penny to the deficit.12 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have read the bill, why don't you? then you can stop accusing me of not reading the bill. What...am i too smart for you? jumping to conclusions that i copied and pasted this. Read the bill and if you haven't then shut up about healthcare reform.

- 4 of those are lies that sound like they came from the whitehouse website... Have you read the bill? PS: Last one is the best one of all! $630 Billion per year, with increasing costs... How is that "deficit nuetrual"? No i can tell you haven't dear...
- That you already received intelligent debate concerning these so-called "lies" a half hour ago: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtjMCFlANU2Kqfx0_0hG0NLsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090822214710AA4ucIx&show=7#profile-info-oNun02Tuaa Should we stop now, if you're not going to read your responses? ****** No - you're not too smart. You did copy this. Is it a forward that's been going around? http://johnboehner.house.gov/Blog/?postid=137890 Someone ranted this in the comments on this page, and it's found verbatim, on others. *lol*
- I wish this was true, but I don't think you've read the actual bill. If it actually did that, I would go for it. But it doesn't so I will not.
- I don't think, but know you're grossly misinformed. God bless.
- They still think that President Obama wants to euthanize your grandma, Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan, President Obama wants to implement Soviet-style rationing, Obama is secretly plotting to cut senior citizens' Medicare benefits, Obama's health care plan will bankrupt America...because Limbaugh told them so
- When I have the opportunity to read the final reconciled Bill of the House and Senate, and it is published, ready for signature, I can offer an intelligent answer. Until then, I am wasting my time, as are you.
- you need to stop posting the same thing over and over
- Wow..I'm impressed that you were able to take misinformation, and then repeat it back in an inaccurate way to make it sound malicious. It is like mis-misinformation. You are not going to change my mind about spending a TRILLION dollars to insure about 20% of the uninsured Americans. The bill is not economically responsible. Bottom line You still want reform? I do. I just want reform that we can afford. Spending a TRILLION bux in an attempt to "reduce" costs is ridiculous!
- http://books.google.com/books?id=NpCpuGRSwdgC&pg=PA54&lpg=PA54&dq=medicare+drug+plan+end+of+life+counseling+section+512&source=bl&ots=M9GDato8R-&sig=Mvb8YwN42jSnI5aNGCJNf9CMAVc&hl=en&ei=q9KQSrrUIN2Btgec44XPBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4#v=onepage&q=&f=false the medicare drug plan currently includes death panels put there by bush and most repubs in congress.
- maxwell: spending trillions on healthcare is fiscally irresponsible, but spending trillions on a war that we had no reason, or authority, to start isn't?
- What did you do, copy and paste this straight from obamas website..what a crock
- You are taking the most rediculous exaggerations so they can be completely renounced. The truth may not be as extreme, but it is still troubling #1 The "Death Panels." There is nothing in the bill about "Death Panels." But there are panels that will decide whether a particular treatment is warrented. But as we experience an increase in pateints, a decrease in doctors, and crippling costs, there WILL be rationing! That is simply inevitiable. WHEN this rationing occurs, those panels that are supposed to decide, based on medical merit, whether a treatment is warrented, could easily make those decisions based on whether the person is deemed worthy. THEN these panels would have become "Death Panels." Considering this bill would not take effect until 2013, and it would take a year or two, or more, for it to get to this level, there is a good chance a Repulbican will be in office by then. So, for those who can't stand the Religous Right, Do you want a homophobe deciding who gets the AIDS medication? #2 I have never heard anyone claim the Dems were going to "outlaw" private insurance! The truth is that if you make ANY changes to your current insurance, such as adding a newborn, then you will be shuttled into the government system. You can no longer keep your old insurance. So within 5 or 10 years, we will all be on the public option. Only the rich could afford anything else. http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/article/107408/5-freedoms-you-would-lose-in-health-care-reform.html;_ylt=AsSPpdjdHgVnCbXlUyQDVp4aBa1_;_ylu=X3oDMTEyc2w4bmtmBHBvcwM1BHNlYwNhcnRpY2xlBHNsawM1ZnJlZWRvbXN5b3U-?mod=insurance-health #3 Obama may not WANT to instill any kind of rationing, but there is no real way to avoid it. It is an unintended consequence of the bill. #4 Obama has stated he needs to "trim waste" from Medicare. Plus, it is currently difficult to get a doctor who accepts Medicare patients. Many will only accept a few. The Medicare system results in more bureaucratic hassle and less compensation. If the Public Options are part of the bill, then there will be even fewer chances to get a doctor. #5 We need to do something. This is NOT the something we need to do! Tort reform will result in fewer needless tests. Mandating insurance companies standardize their forms will result doctors and hospitals having to hire fewer staff members to handle the paperwork. http://money.cnn.com/2009/08/10/news/economy/healthcare_money_wasters/index.htm More college loans for those wanting to go into medicine will increase the number of providers. This will decrease the cost of medicine as doctors will be competing for patients. Allowing people to shop for insurance across state lines will inprove competition as well. And how about vouchers? Give the poor vouchers so they can afford to buy their own insurance.
