Could this be one of the several reasons I have?
why I dropped my AARP membership a long time ago? In my opinion, AARP has been misleading and misrepresenting Senior Citizens by sleeping with the lobbyists. AARP always claim they can provided health insurance and vehicle insurance cheaper than other companies, which I found entirely untrughtful.

- Sure that is the very reason that my husband canceled his subscription
- It pays to shop for insurance. All companies claim to save you money. It is not a lie to say that. Cause in some cases they do save people money. You have to actually do a comparison. That's not really the problem. Was their service good? Did you get what you paid for? Did you have any problems? I can assure you the AARP is not "sleeping" with lobbyist. That's nonsense. They are indeed working with our elected officials in an attempt to give senior Americans a better deal and a break on the cost of health care. You may not be aware of it but the cost of caring for the Baby Boomer generations is a major expense. It could just break this country. I was hoping we seniors would be part of the solution to the health care crisis. That hope I think will be fading.
- although I hadn't thought of the words misleading and misrepresending, my thoughts are in total agreement and are the same reason why I stopped my AARP membership years ago. But I thought of it as all senior citizens being rich and having planned well ahead and who could now golf and party all day because of the ads, but now I see senior citizen magazines being more realistic, that there is a shortage of money and that we have to work together to get what we need. Yes the insurances were too expensive in the AARP magazine and stuff they used to send us and i felt that I didn't fit in. But I realized too that I didn't have the money to buy magazines but was forced to use the internet and find the internet so much more helpful and interesting and feel that I fit in better.
- AARP was originally supposed to be it's OWN lobby group, hired by and working for US! I have not looked at the vehicle insurance but I do know that the health insurance is not the cheapest at all. There is one thing I can tell you for a fact: as a medical social worker, I have found that the medicare supplemental insurance through AARP (I think it is United now) is more reliable and easier to work with. They have been far less likely to decline pre-authorization for care needs, and they pay their bills to providers in a more timely manner. That is just my own experience in my region of NE Ohio.
- I agree with you 100 percent. They need to understand that its the seniorrs that pay their salary
- I dropped them a long time ago for something else and I can't remember, but I think it was that they gave an award to a guy that was not for the USA being run the way it was at the time.
- Yes - remember when AARP made the deal with Li'l Bush to hand MORE MONEY to the drug companies? I don't bother to open their mail when it comes to the house.
- Probably so. I paid my annual dues but have never done any business with them. I will not re-up in the future because of their support of Obamacare. They lost me for time eternal.
- I have multi-accounts w/ our insurance provider so we get home & additional auto discounts. I have shopped around, but no one can beat the combined prices. As for service, my husband had a serious offense against him. He contacted the auto portion of the company. They said that they were not dropping him, nor increasing our rates b/c he has been a good & loyal customer for years & did not want to loose him as a client. They have been good agents with us. I would not trade that for the AARP after looking up their rating reviews on line.
