Why is the White House putting a gag order on the insurance industry but not the AARP?

Isn't there a 1st amendment or have we "changed" that! http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/24/house-republicans-hearing-health-insurance-company-gag-order/

  1. I thought a gag order was what my boy Billy C gave Monica
  2. The usurper hates anything that doesn't blindly follow his lead.
  3. All that do not agree with Obama must be silenced.
  4. Something is amiss. SECRETS are not to be kept from the people like that. Obama and his gang ar up to the same no good they have been. Misinformation and disinformation. .
  5. Chicago style bullying and thugery.
  6. Birds of a feather. I dropped my AARP membership when they first indicated that they would support Obamacare. Then they lied, just like Obama, about it. I sure hope that many more AARP members wake up and drop them. They are just a bunch of money grabbers and do nothing for those they are supposed to represent. If I didn't know better I would think that they are members of the legislation. You know, all politicians lie and so does AARP.
  7. because AARP is his pawn ... like ACORN
  8. The government doesn't want the insurance companies telling us how the 'reform legislation' is actually going to increase premiums as well as paying more in taxes. If every one knew what is really going to happen nobody would be for it.
  9. Hey Obama did run on a campaign of hope and change. Well welcome to the change. First freedom of speech, next up freedom of the press.
  10. No one, especially the White House, is putting a "gag order" on the insurance industry. There is no gag order. The investigation of Humana (ONE company) is being done by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which oversees the Medicare program. The investigation is specifically looking at whether the health insurer violated marketing rules (and federal law) with letters and with an online program that automatically drafts letters to be sent to policymakers; basically doing political advocacy. Humana is cooperating with the investigation, which said that the mailer should be stopped and the reference on its website be removed. There is no gag order. AARP is not an insurance company. They provide group purchasing ability with the Hartford Insurance Company.
  11. I agree and if I was Humana I would challenge them on this. From what I understand they are a corporation which means they are treated as a person which also means they can say what they want. They are protected by the first amendment. What I find hilarious is that what they said in the letters they sent to their policy holders was vindicated by the fact that it was revealed today that $100 billion would be cut from Medicare Advantage program which will affect all seniors who have this at a backup to their Medicare. For some this is all they have.
  12. This point was made on the opinion page of the WSJ today, titled "Medicare and Gag Orders: Humana gets whacked for telling the truth, AARP gets a pass for spreading falsehoods" What Humana said actually agrees with the Congressional Budget Office. Maybe they should put a gag order on the CBO too? Makes me wonder that other information is being suppressed.
  13. Free speech only applies to progressives, and liberals. As is demonstrated by their refusal to let any republican, or conservatives put the new version of the senate bill out for the public to view before it is voted on.
