My father has damaged nerves in his lower legs & pain in his feet, can anyone suggest types of medication?
He is currently taking gabapentin and painkillers and has recently had a full body scan, he has tried accupunture but nothing seems to be working and it seems to be getting worse, he says he feels as if the backs of his legs are constantly moving and his feet feel like they have lumps in them and they are always cold, would like to know if anyone suffers with this condition and whether there is a known medication for him to take as it is ruining my his life

- Anyone here who recommends treatment for an unknown condition should not be listened to. The first step is to obtain a diagnosis. Once that is done, then it is easier to develop a treatment plan which can include medication, physical therapy, surgery ro whatever is appropriate.
- I just started taking Lyrica about 2 weeks ago for nerve pain and it has helped so much.Maybe his doctor will let him try it.Good Luck!
- Sounds like he might have a circulation problem. Is he diabetic? Does he get any exercise? Is he overweight?
- I also take a few pain medications and Neurontin (gabapentin) for nerve damage from a spine injury. The best person to ask about medication for your Dad is his doctor. Here are a few links to sites I use often. http://health.discovery.com/tools/center/dc/tools.html http://www.webmd.com/pain-management/default.htm Here is a link that your Dad can use to find a pain or nerve damage specialist in your area. http://medicinenet.com Here is a link that you can ask your question to a WebMd doctor and get an answer http://www.qapedia.com/cu/webmd.aspx Yahoo Answers is a great thing for getting answers to a lot of questions but someones health is not one of them. The links I listed above are all great information from medical professionals.
- Is he seeing a neurologist.? .it sounds like neuropathy or polyneuropathy., gabapentin is good for it but there are other medication for it also . you say his leg is constantly moving..that sounds like restless leg syndrome.. there are also meds for that too. cold legs sounds like bad circulation.. lumps sound like blood clots. which a cardiovascular physician is an expert on it..if he is not seeing a neurologist, and a cardiovascular physician then he should... a regular physician is not a specialist for all these things, but he or she should refer him to the right person
