My company is switiching our health insurance to Aetna and raising are rates. Can my wife and I switch on to her companies plan? Is my company switiching health insurance considered a qualifying event?

  1. yes it likely is. her plan may require you to use your employer's plan so be careful. also your plan may require her to use a plan if her employer offers one. that is a new trend in health care.
  2. Usually not. You will most likely have to wait until your wife's company has an open season. However, your wife should check with the plan administrator to see if they will consider this as a qualifying event.
  3. No, it would not be a qualifying event. However, in most cases the switch coincides with the open enrollment period so you do not have to sign up for the new plan. In that case, you have lost your coverage which is a qualifying event to enroll on hers.
  4. Yes you can, but you will have to wait until her company is having their Open Enrollment period. That normally only comes around once a year, so have your wife ask her employer when that will be.
  5. I don't know what a qualifying event means but I do know your wife can put you on her group insurance plan at work.
  6. I guess it depends on the company but I was working and I was put on my husbands health insurance because I knew I wouldn't have that job for to long and I would need health insurance. You will have to wait till her open enrollment to put yourself on there.
  7. You can be added to her insurance plan, during her company's open enrollment - and you can cancel your coverage during YOUR company's open enrollment. Your employer changing plans is NOT a qualifying event.
