dental insurance?

im an uninsured college student. but i need insurance, and have no other option but to get it myself. what i need is dental and medical. what are some good options?

1. Before you purchase dental insurance, check out the coverage. It may cost you less if you just worked out payments with the dental provider as dental insurance usually doesnt cover everything. You can also try dental schools - they offer services at lower costs than dentists.
2. If you have already run some on-line quotes you already know that there are many insurance companies to choose from and then each company offers 3-7 different plans. This can be pretty confusing. I suggest using yellowpages.com to search for health insurance brokers in your area. Don't call your auto and home agent they specialize in property and causality insurance. You need someone that specializes in health insurance. A Broker represents multiple carriers and can help you sort through all the different insurance companies and plan options in your state. A good broker will ask you a few questions then make a recommendation on the company and plan that may fit your needs. For a typical college student who is healthy and has a limited budget I usually suggest a plan with a higher deductible and a lower premium.
3. Well, I've never seen a good dental plan that pays out more than it takes in. For dental, you're best off just paying out of pocket. For medical, the cheapest plan is the one offered through your school. Otherwise, a good low/no deductible HMO style plan is GOING to cost you close to $200 a month. Alternatively, I've known LOTS of full time college students who worked at UPS night shift, they made good money, AND got health insurance through work. So you're young - you can do that, also!
