How can i find affordable health insurance?
I have a friend of mine who lives in Florida. He had open heart surgery a few years ago. After the surgery was done, the Dr walked in the room and told my friend he really never needed the surgery to begin with. He is trying to find health insurance and he is having trouble finding it because of his heart condition even though now he doesn't have one. Most of the health insurance companies want more then $1500 a month to insure him. How does he find affordable insurance in the US?

- Hi Ella, well, its gonna be a tough search, I suggest you cast a wide net and get as many quotes as possible. The free online quote sites are a good place to start, I've got a bunch of them listed and reviewed on my blog http://dryberry.blogspot.com/2009/09/insurance-sites.html. The difficult thing is gonna be the heart "condition" which you may need to get further documentation on when talking to insurance companies. Best of Luck! Jack.
- Try getting quote from a couple of different brokers or companies. There are many places where you can get no obligation quotes where you can at least see if there is an affordable option out there. http://www.e-wisdom.com/insurance/health.php
- Thanks a lot doctor for performing surgery when it was not needed, thus causing me to not being able to get health insurance now since, they know he had a pre-existing condition. Have your friend check into the high risk pool in Florida. But I have read that they are going bankrupt and could have a 2 year wait. Even though the high risk pool is pricey, it might be cheaper than $1,500, but like I said, could be on a waiting list to get in. In many states with a pre-exisitng condition, many companies are barred from insuring by law which sucks, since that leaves many people uninsured or not able to find insurance. Don't have him apply online, but contact a broker who insures many companies for advice, since many companies if they deny you, will preclude you from getting a policy from someone else, since the application asks, have you applied for insurance and been denied and if so, why, which could be an automatic denial. good luck, he will need it.

- There are Guaranteed Issue Health Plans that he could get. They are limited in benefits and doctor visits, but are better then being without insurance. Andrew S. CEO Florida Affordable Insurance, Inc.
- This is one of the stupid pieces to insurance. The only way is to get a bunch of providers and get quotes and see who's cheaper. It's very inneficient. Good Luck!
