What is the difference between dental insurance and dental plans?

  1. I have both, I have insurance then a dental plan. I use my dental plan for things that my insurance will not cover or have met my limits for the year. My dental plan has no limits on usage. www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago and they have saved me thousands of dollars on all dental services. . They even had my very affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. Good luck and hope this gives you a better understanding.
  2. Basically insurance is insurance - it has co-pays and caps, meaning you pay monthly for the insurance, you still pay something when you go to the dentist for the visit and then if you've met your yearly amount that insurance covers, you pay still more. Dental plans are discount programs. You go to a provider with the plan and they give you discounts off of whatever service they provide, you pay the remainder and are done. If you go to a provider that accepts both then your savings are the best, like the person who answered #1 said. There are lots of great dental plans out there. My favorite is the link below - I've saved thousands!!
