Opinions on Delta Dental dental insurance?
Anybody have any experiences with Delta Dental dental insurance. Is it worth it? I'd also be interested in opinions about whether dental insurance in general is worth having, it seems a lot of people don't have it even though they have health insurance what is the deal with pre-existing conditions and dental insurance?

- Delta Dental was one of the first dental insurances on the market. When they first started they had a generous total amount they would annually cover ($1000). Unfortunately over time their premiums have increased but their annual amount has not kept pace with inflation. That being said, they are still one of the better ones on the market. But realize that as all dental insurances are, they are meant to be a supplement and not a total coverage item.
- Every insurance plan is different. It depends on how you or your employer set it up in terms of benefits. I think if you plan on using it, it can be worth it. Too many people have it and don't even bother with their preventative care such as cleanings. Family coverage is definitely worth it in my opinion. The thing to remember about dental insurance is that it is exactly opposite what your medical insurance does. Dental pays some up front and then maxes out to let you pay the difference while medical lets you pay more up front and kicks in after large deductibles have been met. If you have little to no work to do and are single, it might be better to pay out of pocket. If you are a family or have a large amount of work to do, insurance may be the way to go. Even if you max out of benefits for the year, you are still entitled to the PPO discount fees if you stay in network. Insurance may not pay anything, but you could still save hundreds or thousands on extensive treatment plans by using someone in network. Just my two cents.....
- I heard they used to be good, depending on the plan you choose. these are quick and about $80 per year: http://www.simplyinsurancequotes.com/dental-coverage/?id=oxOtt331c009
