I am 25 yo, 5'10", 128 lb woman. I just got the results of a body scan and I have 32% body fat?
How can this be?

- means you have little to no real MUSCLE and your body is mostly fat, which is weird since you only weigh 128 lbs....
- just means you don't have a lot of muscle, your well...32% fat. For you weight i assume you have a nice body but at the same time you have some room to sculpt it.
- you have no muscle but you have a high body fat percentage. You look thin despite your high body fat. Muscle weighs more than fat. Im 6 foot 160 lbs 17 years old and my body fat is less than 7% and I have an 8 pack. But since I have muscle, I look bigger and am heavier. You should eat more meat to gain a little more muscle naturally.
- Seems very odd because you probably appear tall and lean. Keep in mind a few things: there is a certain percentage of fat that your body needs to function (essential body fat). This is 10-13% on average for women. Let's so some math: 32% body fat on 128lbs means you have about 40lbs of fat. 17lbs of that is essential fat that your body needs to function. The other 23 lbs are storage fat, fat that your body is stashing for a famine. Your body does need some storage fat as fuel. The acceptable range of body fat for women is 25-31% according to the American Council on Exercise. So, for 128lbs, you should have at least 15lbs of storage fat (this plus your essential fat would give you a 25% body fat percentage). You only have about 8-13lbs of body fat over what you realistically need to have. If you're unhappy with that, and want to lose some body fat (ideally while gaining lean muscle), you'll want to begin an exercise regimen that includes both strength training (higher weight for less reps to exhaustion) to build muscle and low-medium impact cardio (65% of your maximum heart rate) to burn fat most effectively.
- Google "tummy watcher" and go to the first website, it has a calorie calculator tool for various exercises. Also you can find out what your ideal body weight is, based on your height, age, and gender. The website also has five foods to fight hunger and other helpful tips.
