What is the statute of limitations for health insurance claims in California?
In other words, how long after a cost was incurred can a claim be filed?

- The insurance company sets their own limit. Many of them are 1 year, but there are also several with much shorter limits. You need to call your particular company to find out for sure.
- That is not a matter of law. It's a policy established by the insurer.
- Check with your insurer. Usually it's a shorter time for providers due to their agreement with the carrier, but insureds (you) can request a bill from the provider and bill it yourself after a much longer period of time (sometimes up to 16 months past the date of service.)
- Health insurance can be very tricky. Since I live in Idaho I'm not familiar with the California laws and regulations, so I recommend you call a nearby health insurance agent. http://www.americaschoicetoday.com/Health-Insurance.html They should be able to assist you.
